Only ONE Other Sonoma County Winery Won More Gold Medals

Sonoma County, Santa Rosa, California, September 30, 2003- Grape Links, Inc., producer of Barefoot Reserve Sonoma County wines, is proud to announce the results of the 2003 Sonoma County Harvest Fair Wine Competition. Barefoot Reserve Sonoma County wines were awarded FOUR GOLD MEDALS at this prestigious competition; only one other Sonoma County Winery took more Gold Medals than Barefoot Reserve Wines. Barefoot Reserve Sonoma County wines were also awarded Silver and Bronze medals at this event as well.
Each year, more than 2500 people are packed into the Grace Pavilion, at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, to taste the wines submitted into the Harvest Fair Wine competition which are all featured at the Annual Awards Night Gala. At this gala, which is jokingly called the ‘Academy Awards’ of Sonoma County, the award winners are announced.
As reported in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat: There were 855 wines, representing 161 different brands entered into this year’s wine competition. All of the wines entered into the Harvest Fair Wine Competition were made from grapes grown in Sonoma County. The judges awarded a record 125 gold medals this year to wines entered in 27 different classes, ranging from chardonnay to zinfandel. 29 wineries won multiple gold medals.
There were only 2 wineries which were awarded a GOLD MEDAL for TWO Pinot Noirs. 2001 Barefoot Reserve Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and 2002 Barefoot Reserve Russian River Valley Pinot Noir were BOTH awarded GOLD medals at this competition. “We are pleased we were awarded GOLD MEDALS for the wine quality of our 2001 and 2002 Russian River Pinot Noirs,” commented Barefoot Winemaker Jennifer Wall. “These wines were the lowest priced GOLD MEDAL winning Pinot Noirs at the event with a suggested retail of $14.99 in California.” Other Gold Medal winning Pinot Noirs were listed with suggested retail prices as high as $89 per bottle, such as the Hartman Lane 2000 Russian River Pinot Noir.
“We are incredibly pleased to have done so well at the 2003 Harvest Fair Wine Competition,” exclaimed Michael Houlihan, President and CEO of Barefoot Cellars. “Only one other winery in Sonoma County was awarded more GOLD MEDALS than the Barefoot Reserve wines!”
