Brunch Picnic

Try This: A Fab Brunch Picnic

Skip right past those long brunch lines and land in the great outdoors — your backyard. Brunch picnics at home are just the thing for lazy Sundays, especially when they’re bright, low-cost and fun. Perfect for Mother’s Day or any Sunday with friends, these brunch ideas are low on effort, big on splash.

Set up

Milk crates and shipping pallets make the perfect outdoor table. For a fresh look, we painted them white. No paint, no problem. Throwing a tablecloth over the pallet is equally transformative. Center the crates, pop a shipping pallet on top and snap! Outdoor dining table. Plush it up with cozy blankets and loads of pillows.

Menu

Whip up an easy brunch without cooking a thing. The hostess shouldn’t have to make the mostest effort. Sunday’s picnic brunch is supposed to be lazy. One stop at the store is all you need to pull the tastiness together.

Fancy Muffins (except not really)

Buy some yummy blueberry, chocolate and poppy seed muffins at the store. For a zippy spin, put them in cupcake wrappers. Decorate the tops with icing and garnishes like blueberries. Then, stack them high on a tiered cake stand for an extra pop of table drama.

Fruity Skewers

Cookie cutters have magical powers! What looks like an ordinary slice of fruit can be transformed with cookie cutters. With a few punch-outs, you’ve got whimsical-looking skewers. Thread fruit shapes onto skewers in any number of patterns. To serve, slice a watermelon in half lengthwise and spike the skewers in like porcupine quills. For a savory take on the skewers, try using ham slices, melon and mozzarella cheese balls.

Sweet Sunday Rosé

Up-level everyone’s favorite summer refresher with this Sweet Sunday Rosé cocktail recipe. Topped with Rosé, this cocktail is pink and pretty as a pitcher of lemonade. But it looks amazing in jars. Infused with peach and raspberry and finished with the sweet lime fizz from Rosé Spritzer, Sweet Sunday Rosé is irresistible. Guests pluck them right out of a cooler, drop a straw in and sip away.

  • 1 can of Barefoot Refresh Rosé Spritzer
  • 4 ounces lemonade
  • 1/2 cup diced peaches
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • Mint garnish
  1. 1. Lightly muddle peaches and raspberries, then divide between two glasses
  2. 2. Add two ounces of lemonade to each glass, then fill with ice
  3. 3. Top each glass with half the can of Rosé Spritzer and garnish with mint leaves

Play

Music

When it comes to keeping your brunch going, how do you want to play it? Tunes are a must-have. Go old school transistor radio. Or try readymade playlists like Country Brunch, Brunch Café, Sunday Brunch or Sunday Funday Brunch on Pandora. Spotify's got a full spectrum of styles ranging from Indie Brunch to Jazz Brunch.

Games

Making everyone feel included is what you’re after for any party. To entice everyone to get to know each other, build your own crossword puzzle with clues about your guests. Use tape to make a crossword on the table and readymade letters for the words. Or, spark audience participation with rewards. Flamingo ring toss could easily become a contact sport when there’s a prize involved. Vary the level of difficulty with flamingos placed close far and near and assign points for difficulty.
